Travelers Note Book

the adventures of three best friends

The smell of the forest surrounded us as we sat by the river side cooling ourselves from the heat of a summer’s day. We could hear laughter of tourists in the distance, making us ponder as to how the scene before us could easily be interrupted by people. Crowds of family and friends lead the way to shuttle buses which took us deeper into the forest, but no matter how deep we go, we could not escape the people coming to visit the forest. As lovely as it seems, it was unfortunately a large tourist attraction, even the wild life seemed to be untouched by the amount of people coming and going.

Straight from the airport we jumped on to the a taxi and headed towards the train station. The city created a sense of mystery as we peered out our windows looking at the scenery. Large flower statues stopped me in my tracks and had me stumbling to grab my camera. As the taxi speed through the city we managed to get a decent picture of lovely flowers in the middle of winter. The scene contrasted with spring flowers and fall leaves and had me wishing for spring weather to come earlier. Arriving at the station, all we could think was that we were just a few stops closer to where we want to be.

The lingering smell of sweetness lured us into this little creative area of bath soaps. The coldness of the weather and the barrows of soaps made me long for a hot bath. We couldn’t help ourselves with the deal that was being offered and the idea of a wonderful smelling bath, so we dove into our pockets and started mixing and matching. In the end, the search for a great smelling concoction brought us big smiles, as these small bottles were given to our mothers as little gifts

The airport always brings us a sign of destination. On this day, we awaited for news of whether or not our father had left for the plane. We were forced to leave without him back home. Sitting on the most comfiest sits there were, we watched travellers rushing towards their terminals. We couldn’t help but wonder where their next destination point would be. Mesmerized by the hustle and bustle, we were interrupted again and whisked away to another destination without a sign of our father.

Our travel to Kingston started out early and ended late into the day. As tired as we were, it did not stop us from being extremely excited. We texted away to our friends who could not have been anymore than surprised with our unexpected visit to Kingston.

As we got off at the station, other trains zoomed passed us and we watched in amazement at the speed of the train. Perhaps it was that moment that we realized the distance we had just travelled to go to our friend’s winter ball. Indeed it was a great adventure.

Road trips always brings out our inner curiosity. For every stop we make we would check out the little boutiques or beaches or we would be mulling around in our car looking at other tourist. Although I already have forgotten the name of this town, I still remember the feel that the town gave us, like Alice entering wonderland. Everywhere we looked held this foreignness to it and we couldn’t help but smile at the simplicity and quietness of the town.

I can’t believe it has taken us almost a year to get here. None the less, we are looking forward to bringing more adventures! Here are some recent updates on our lives.

Linh is finishing up her final year in Highschool (Woohoo congrats to her!). Me (D) and Jo finished our first year of Nursing, and we’re taking spring and summer courses while working as a baristas.

This year is a little different from most year in terms of Vacation.
Linh will be heading down to Orlando, Florida, while me and Jo return to our BC (British Colombia) trip in Canada. This will bring some new stories for this summer!

Also, I would like to thank all our followers, it is truly inspiring to see people enjoying and reading our blogs. It has kept me blogging, and hopefully we will be able to bring more wonderful stories.

Our adventures were simple. It started out with a look out into the lake followed by a campus tour and ending with the sunset view of the city.

It was hard to imagine that during the planning stages we would end up here in a small town across the country from where we had departed. It felt surreal considering we were high school friends and we had gone our separate ways. We connected through skype and from there we kept our friendship a float.

Its just hard to imagine that from a simple joke about us coming over could lead to such a big adventure. If only we had stayed there longer…

The Parliament Building in Ottawa was exceptionally quiet. During the off season we had time to explore the capital in peace and quiet. Across the street from the building we found a surprise that truly displayed one of Canada’s hero. Terry Fox. It brought back memories of my elementary years of running and hearing stories of this man who attempted to run across Canada with an amputated leg to raise money for cancer. Unfortunately he was struck with cancer again and never finished his maraton.

What made me laugh was how Canadian it was to see a hockey puck wedge in between his hand. This was the one thing I did not expect to see, but I am not completely disappointed. I love Canada.

The roads zigzagged downwards. It was perhaps the longest and tiring route to this dead end road where the flowers laid. We had heard of this place, but it was definitely not what we had expected. Cars slowly turning one way to the next trying to escape the oddity of the road. All this hardship up the road to do what? See the flowers, all in which were spectacular.

Our first stop in San Francisco was the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE.

Coming from San Jose, we drove how ever many miles it took to get to San Francisco to discover a dramatic change in climate. Unlike the warm night we had experience the night before, San Francisco displayed a much more common weather pattern in Alberta.

Without any kind of jacket we exited our van with our sweaters. The wind reminded us the weather that we had desperately tried to escape during the summer. None the less, the fog that surrounded the bridge had the unique look to it that we would not have seen on a sunny day.

We had arrived just on time for the show. As we were herded around the stage we couldn’t find a spot near the “wet zone” and on this particular hot day, we ALL wanted the chance to get a little wet.

I couldn’t help but sit upright when I saw the whales entering the stage while the sound of music began pumping. I sat there giddy and smiling as the whales entertain us with their acrobatic skills. However, as I sat in awe I couldn’t help wonder whether the whales enjoying the performance as much as we enjoy theirs.

He told us it was a tunnel that was uniquely built to walk around the perimeter endlessly. To us the tunnel was a shelter to help shield us from the wind. The lack of sleep started to really hit all of us. WIth the wind persistently colliding with us, the walk around the college was really damping our mood.

Regardless of what seemed like a gloomy day, the view of the “battle” field and the connecting tunnel did provide us a little entertainment.

What does a Road trip or even a bus tour entails? I would hope a great adventure! However after an early morning wakeup call and a bus full of strangers you are more likely prone to the inevitable, which of course is sleep

All we saw when we peered out the window with our eyes crusted from the lack of sleep, was the empty dessert. Miles and miles of it, and the only thing that we could think of was “Vegas here we come”.

Hello folks! I haven’t been blogging lately, perhaps it was because I recently just finished my finals and stayed away from the computer! Never the less it is no excuse to skip out on the blog updates. Fortunately we have a consistent blogger D! Hopefully with more time now I might be blogging a bit more and it wouldn’t just be D’s posts! And thank the faithfuls who have stayed with us!
